I have a couple questions on parts...before you tell me to search mud, I have...extensively. The questions below are what I have left after doing that. :) First, I need some help figuring out what brand these shackles are....I have searched online and looked all over them and they aren't stamped with any names. Does anyone recognize them?

My current shackles are too short (rubbing on the frame) but these are too long (recommendations on what I should sell them for too). Any recommendations on good brands of shackles? Greasable vs non-greasable? I need at most a 4 inch (bolt to bolt) size as I don't want much more lift than what I have already. I also need new bushings....good brands?

Also, I am looking for TREs (I know, call Kurt) but want to know what other parts I'll need for that job and if I should also rebuild the drag link at the same time.

Next, I need a steering damper...mine is not a steering damper, it's a regular shock attached in a place that made Darin laugh (this is not always a good thing I found) and I am wondering what you guys would recommend.

Last thing...the knuckle rebuild is coming and I figured I'd save on shipping and go ahead and buy parts...do I need the bearings as well or just the rebuild kit? How do I tell? Think that's all for now. Thanks!!! :D

No idea on the shackles, if they are parts that came with the truck i'd suggest asking Brad

Not sure what you mean by rebuild the drag link.... if it's bent replace it there are many stronger units out there. If you are just replacing the ends then yes call Kurt or check with Fred Anderson (not sure if OEM is around for those years) other than that you don't need anything to replace the ends just new ends :)

easiest damper to get would be a OME or the iron man ones from camel back

Id always recommend replacing the wheel bearings when doing a knuckle rebuild as they are cheap and you most likely don't know the last time they were replaced. Plus they have many parts in front of them to get to especially the trunion bearings so you may do it all at once instead of having to go back in a 2nd time later on.

I sent him a msg but he is on an extended bike trip...thought I'd ask just to see if someone recognized them.

Kurt sent me a link to a drag link repair kit....wasn't sure if that was needed. Nothing looks bent. I read on mud about some kind of little sleeves that go on the ends of the tie rod ends (ha) and wasn't sure what those are or if I need those either, that's why I asked. And stupid newbie question, I don't need to jack the truck up to do this, correct? :o

Perfect-just what I needed to know...Timken or Koyo? :)

I think those shackles came from FJ parts - you should be able to sell for about 65 percent of the new price + or _ 10 percent if they are new or in excellent condition

The steering stabilizer is also available from Monroe and other sources - I've bought several from ARB and one Monroe and could not tell the difference.

I recall that you had one on the drag link?

Get new wheel bearings...and tie rod ends should be checked out too.

Yeah I just remembered that he is on a bike trip and currently near pikes peak.

My apologies on the drag link..... its been so long since I looked at an old style cruiser OEM one that I forgot they had all that extra stuff on it.

No you don't need to jack it up to replace as long as you can get in there.

Timken and Koyo is like comparing a good domestic beer with a good foreign beer. Both are great..... Timken are made locally though so I always say go with them in these cases.... plus you can get them at auto zone most of the time for cheaper than most places.

Well, I have the original one where it's supposed to be but it looks old and then I have that yellow shock attached to the axle right near the end via a little metal plate. Let me try to go take a pic later on.

So I think after last night's discussion, I'll go with removing the yellow shock and replacing the original damper with a new one-OME got good recs, thoughts?

Also, I need some help on deciding which shackles to go with. There are a ton! My springs are HFS 4 inch. I also need bushings-will the size be different since I don't have stock springs and shackles or are bushings all the same 2 sizes?

Thanks again for all the info last night!!

Al. I do not think the HFS springs and the frame bushings are the same size. Besides all she needs are the frame bushings. 8 to be exact .

If you can still get a stock dampner then go for it. Should be enough for your truck.

What do those shackles you have sitting there measure eye to eye ?

I thought she was asking if the bushings on the HFS springs were a different size than ones on the stock springs, my mistake.

Al, I was asking that. I thought I needed them all.

Darin, the shackles are 5 1/4 eye to eye, way bigger than those 4 inch ones you told me to stay at. Should I do greasable or no?

Just spoke to Kurt...you guys are right, he is the sh$t!!!! He's got lots of my $$$$$ now. :)

Remember what i showed you that your spring bushings were fine, but the frame side bushings were dry rotted. I knew i should of taken a pic for you. Thought you wrote that down. Better check your notes.:hillbilly: :hillbilly:

To me it does not make one to me greaseable or not. The newer trend is going that way though.

Yes I do! Let me just say my notes were a bit 'damaged' when I drive thru the storm and all the rain came in thru my awesome weather stripping. :)

What else do you need to do when you do the axle rebuild ? This is a test....

Well TREs, new shackles and bushings, make battery cables, knuckle rebuild, replace brake lines, figure the air pressure for my tires, extend breathers, steering dampner, rear drum cylinders-that's off the top of my head. Don't have my notes with me. :)

Fail. Brake pads. :)

Dang I knew that! I was also gonna say tons of paper towels and 4-6 ONSC members :) I do have brake pads and rotors on my list, I promise!!
