Fitted a part time kit today. Drove home from a mates workshop it felt like a different car. More power, no backlash in the drive train and the steering was a heap lighter just hope it makes as much difference to fuel consumption

wont have to repack front end as often either as axles wont be spinning all the time

It hardly makes a difference to the fuel consumption..

I say pigs arse to that.
It makes plenty of difference in fuel , and ongoing front end maintenence.

I haven't noticed a big difference in fuel economy but the extra power gets used a bit. Maybe that's why. Too much right foot on the go pedal.

A mates got the part time kit in his TD 80 and I don't like it. The handling of the 80 is ruined by the kit. It understeers like crazy compared to the full-time 80s.

IMHO, I bought the 80 because of the full time 4wd. If I wanted part time I would have bought a Pootrol instead.

Not having a personal shot at you guys that like the part time just putting my 2c in. I reckon the full time is a great set up and don't think the part time has any real world advantages.

I find most of my front end maintainence is from water/mud ingress and trail carnage not because they have been spinning too much.

The saving in fuel is subjective and I don't think if you are doing it just for saving money I wouldn't spend the money on the conversion and have heaps of spare fuel money.

I only noticed a tiny amount of lightening in the steering compared to mine but I have no problems with the steering being too heavy except when locked up off road which the part time has exactly the same.

By going part time you also lose the ability to unlock the centre diff while offroad to give a tighter turning circle and more controlled traction in off camber situations.

Like I said earlier this is just my opinions so don't take any of this personally.

I agree with you mickldo, everything you said is why i bought the 80 instead of a pootrol (as you put it). I like the way it handles and drives on gravel roads with the full time , much nicer.
