Part #'s for Tensioners for Timing Belt

Getting ready to do my timing belt, and found out the Tensioners are 80.00 ea from Yota, and that is at a discount.

Plus I couldnt find them aftermarket...

anyone else had luck?

Do not forget the camshaft oil seals and waterpump.

I would not change the tensioners "just because" you are changing the T-belt...
Inspect the tensioners for excessive play + roughness when you spin them, and then decide whether or not to replace `em...Those pulleys are extremely durable, and in some cases, can outlast the engine`s life !!

As far as the seals and water pump go...that is a "must " !!



P.S. The MSRP on those pulleys is $74.00 ea...so 80 bucks each is not a "deal" !

Alot of searching revealed a Beck Arnely 0241178...

but no one seems to have it in there system......

I agree, on not a must, just thought I would have it there just in case.

I picked up a new OEM pair of them on Ebay for $30

other than that......no idea.

for $30 I will be replacing them when doing the t-belt.

You might be able to pull the bearing out and cross it over and replace it, like a a fj80 tensioner, when I did that it cost me $10 for the bearing.

Well more search reveals, that its the Idlers that are the 74, which I need two, then a tensioneer and the timing belt....

Thru American yota, list is 251.93 total, thru the site discount is $188.93...

I am double checking with my buddy, I think he isnt in fact getting a so called wholesale prices.

What about the water pump..?..you ARE gonna use a O.E. Toyota pump,..right?....

The Toyota part number for the timing belt tensioner is 1354050030. It list for $47.50 and the online price from www.toyotapartscheap.com is $38.00. If you're doing the 90kmi timing belt change, the tensioner is probably like new but the rubber dust shield could be scored or torn. The part number is 1355350020 and the online price is $4.71. I'm up to 135kmi on the orginal water pump. I will change it out at the 180kmi t-belt change if it makes it that far. If not, I'll be changing the timing belt when the water pump goes. Since most water pump failures start as a very slow leak around the shaft seal and increase slowly, I'm not to concerned about getting stranded. The online price for a new Toyota water pump is $104.62 plus $3.94 for the gasket (I don't have part numbers). If the orginal pump fails before 180kmi, I plan to install a new NAPA premium pump for $159 (part number NWP559257). It has a highly polished shaft and premium dual seals. Since I change the anti-freeze regularly and use the red Toyota anti-freeze, I'm counting on the orignal water pump to go 180kmi.

Did you say NAPA?...I think you missed the last part of your post...

Just curious, but isnt that comment reason enough to replace the old pump with a new OE Toyota pump? The amazing thing is, that the NAPA pump actually costs MORE than an OE unit !!..I cant tell you how many times I see so-called "premium" Aftermarket water pumps fail WAY TOO early to be worth even half the price (of OE)....and when they fail...they dont just "weep" lke the Toyota pumps...the shafts and bearings "grenade"...thus leaving you on the side of the road, with a very high tow bill indeed !!

PS..did ya see the consumer reports 2005 RELIABILITY issue...Toyota products are the most reliable vehicles on the planet because of all those "parts" that make them a Toyota...

I said, "If the original Toyota pump fails BEFORE 180kmi, I plan to install a new NAPA premium pump for $159 (part number NWP559257)". In other words, if the Toyota pump goes 180k miles, I'll replace it with another Toyota pump. If the original Toyota pump fails before 180k miles, I'll install the NAPA pump. Don't knock the NAPA pump until you go look at one. It is very well made. There is a lot of truth in the adage "you get what you pay for". I didn't change the original water pump when I changed the original timing belt because I fully expect it to go 180k miles. After all, it is a Toyota with a strong reputation for reliability and longevity. Most people on this forum aren't that impressed with the reputation or don't feel the risk is worth the $100 to $200 and change both at 90k miles. In 25 years, I've never had a water pump on any vehicile fail catastrophically so maybe I'm more of a risk taker. I have had several develop slow leaks around the shaft seal but I've never been even close to stranded due to a water pump. Ya, now that I've said it, I probably be screwed.

Update, finally got to tear it down... Thank gosh, we where at my buddies shop...

The torch came in handy, we could not break the main center wheel for nothing, just heated it up for a second, and it spun out, easy thin...

My water pump hand been leaking, but the leak stopped due to corrision around it formed like a gasket barrier, so no drip, drip...

Why Toyota fills this is less time than doing a 22re or 3.0 motor, not sure.... Case it was a Bitch for the most part,

The one bolt under the AC just sucked.....

Old Belt could have gone another 30-50K easy, only one sign of fraying....

my waterpump prolly looks just like yours did, crusty red stuff around the shaft.

my T belt and drivebelts looked like new, NO fraying at all.

Update, finally got to tear it down... Thank gosh, we where at my buddies shop...

yep exactly.... It was like battery acid, in the wrong places.
