First off, I'm new to this forum so... hello.

Anyway, there is a terrible high pitched squealing noise coming from the the back PS wheel. It only seems to happen when I am driving at low speeds (though doesn't matter if I'm pressing the brake or not), and makes no sound if I drive in reverse. Driving in reverse almost seems to fix the problem for a while.

I'm pretty sure its a problem with the parking brake, the cable is very loose and it hasn't worked for probably over a year (I never use it). After looking at this thread:

https://forum.ih8mud.com/80-series-tech/135349-parking-brake.html

I noticed that the cam arm is moving very freely, the top half of the cam pivot has broken off (very corroded), and the pin is missing. I recently (<5k miles ago) replaced the rear pads, calliper and rotor and they all look fine.

So assuming the noise is coming from the parking brake, could someone give me some suggestions on what I could do to fix this on a shoe string college student budget? :D

hey I'm new too and having a similar issue with my e-brake. Not working is the issue with mine. My cam things are really corroded too and probably don't have enough strengh to ingage the brake. For what its worth you could drive it and hope the shoes wear down enough not to squel. Or pull the rear rotors and adjust the adjustment for the shoes. I've got a 97 with rear rotors, not drums. Although if the shoes are pressed against the drums/rotors it might be hard to remove. Hope that helps

I'll have to try taking the rotor off tomorrow. What confuses me most about it is the fact that there is no noise in reverse and it certainly doesn't feel like the brake is engaged....just sort of a metal on metal kind of sound. If I take the shoes out would I be risking any further damage to the drum? I plan on fixing this properly when I have the time/money but for now I just want to make sure I can keep it on the road!
