I scored some new warehouse pallet racking.

I now have 8 - 12' uprights (44" wide) and 16 - 8' horizontal beams and 12 - 4' horizontal beams. (I really want 24 - 10' beams so everything fits in my garage perfectly.)

Instead of using pallets, I planned on using 1/2 plywood for the "shelf" portion. I do not want the plywood sagging in a year or so due to the constant weight.

What do you guys use between the beams to support the 1/2" plywood?

I'm thinking about some Oak firing strips or maybe some 1"x2" .065 tubing.

Feel free to post up what you have done.

All wire decks, got a mix of 36" deep, 32" deep with wood and 24" with wire.

Matracks out of San Bernardino Airport........

Depending on what you plan to store you may get away with 3/4" ply or to be safe just get some 1 1/8". I assume it is a permanent installation so you could weld some 1 1/2" angle iron to support the plywood. We don't have any decking or shelving, everything goes on a pallet. Or junk gets put on a pallet and then on the rack. I would like to turn a section of ours into a rack to store bulk steel and pipe instead of having it all in a pile to sort through and lose stuff in all the time.

I H8 "Call for Pricing"

Looks like they have everything I need though.

I wonder if they know there is more of California once they get over the Tehachapi Mountain Range and San Gorgonio.

When I took a job down here the station crew used to say Canada started North of Hwy 138 and Moreno Valley was Mexico.

Send them a e-mail, I outfitted the entire back of the shop on both sides for a very low price..............very low, lots of warehouse clean outs around these parts.

Dan,

I use 2" x 6" boards laid flat space around 16" apart to put under plywood.

I have 56 8' beams sitting at my house. I'm going to be rid of this stuff cheap. I also have several uprights too.

are you talking about across the width? Mine has little metal triangles that go in. I seem to remember 2 or 3 per shelf. you can see them in post # 3 of this thread, under the wire mesh of the orange rack.
You will love this stuff.. not any fun to move but you can stack tranny's etc on it. I think i used 3/4 ply sheets on mine. I measured the depth of the notch.

To remove those triangle braces just grab em and twist. Might call a warehouse supply that's local see if they have those, probably safer to use than planks. course could have the planks lying around already.

thats pretty much where we Canadians think the 49th parallel N. should run ... then we wouldn't need a passport to get to some warm weather......

Hey to hijack... Where are these and who might I contact?? Might be interested

A lot of pallet racking ends up in salvage yards around here. I picked some up a few years ago and use in the garage. The nice thing about it besides being heavy duty, means I can put my tool boxes, lathe etc underneath them but still against the wall. The score I grabbed was the exact size I wanted - and it came with shelf supports. On top of all that, I have 1/2" ply. One of the best investments I made for out there (total cost was like $100).

Sorry for hijacking... I have been looking for something like that. Let me know if you see anything in the region. I had to pass a very nice compressor because it had a horizontal tank and I don't have much floor space left in my garage. This setup would be great.
