Paint removal from a rubber gasket

Sorry if this is a stupid question...any advice on getting paint off of a rubber gasket. The gasket in question is on an FJ40 windshield wiper motor cover. It is $39.00 to replace. The PO just painted over it in a previous shabby paint job.

Have you tried some paint thinner or mineral spirits with a rag to rub it off?
