Hi,

I am about to purchase a used rear fender flare for my wife's 80.

I am buying someones green color, and hers is red. Will it be easy, cheap to have the paint on the fender flare match the rest of her car.....is it easy to paint over paint?

or am I being foolish?

Thanks

If you're not going to paint it yourself, it might be cheaper to get the right one from the dealer. Need prices to know for sure.

If you're getting a freebie and you don't mind painting it with a rattle can from paintscratch.com or something, it will work fine. Scuff up the old paint with 150 grit, then prime it before you paint the new color.

From the dealer it comes as bare metal, I paint myself.

I was going to bring it to an auto paint store and have them match the color and paint for me....is that expen$ive?

Assuming the factory paint is in good condition, no need for primer, and 150 would be way to heavy. If it's color change only, wet sand with 360 wet-r-dry sandpaper, after degreasing first with something like prepsol. Probably not worth the trouble and expense of buying all the needed prep and paint materials for one flare, maybe a quickie shop like maaco could match it for you.
