Body men are some flaky dudes............. Finding a legitimate paint and body shop is turning into an exercise in futility. The first took 3 months just to sandblast and prime my wheels....!!? My parts were piled in the corner when I finally had to dig them out and give him the Ramsey St. wave as I walked out. The second took a set of doors that I plan on using for steel half doors and LAP welded the new steel replacement door bottoms. Told me he couldn't butt weld the parts together....after the fact. At least the doors are not my best set. Geeezus somebody point me in the right direction. I can't weld or do body work. I don't mind paying if someone actually knows what they are doing.

The only person I'd recommend is near me in Hillsborough.

Rays custom rides.

They have done blasting and frame painting for me. So far so good. Quick, honest, good work and he ALWAYS answers his phone. Not cheap but not expensive either.

When I worked at Carmax in Fayettenam we cycled through body shops regularly due to poor workmanship and paint it was a constant cycle poor work and no communication even when it was guaranteed work and payment from us. Colortek up in Linden wasn't too bad the owner stood behind his work which was nice but we sent a few back due to not meeting standards but he had his guys fix it.

Colortek is about 4 miles from my driveway. The owner said they primarily did insurance work now and were to busy to take on steel body work

This is the crux of the matter, Insurance Work. Body shops do not normally repair panels on newer vehicles, they just replace the entire panel. This is far easier work and requires far less experience (read $$$ paid to qualified body man).

I don't want it to look like Fido's ass or I would paint do it myself. The body work, rust removal, is beyond me.

Thanks. I just sent them an email

@tstepp920 I'm in the same boat, with the rear sill, patch panels, soft top bow set, and more. I'm gonna give it a go - figure some practice on spare/scrap parts, investing in some basic equipment will ultimately be more satisfying and cost-effective than farming out everything. And when I screw it up, it's just an investment of time to redo it, instead of paying someone else to fix it up. C'mon up when we do the sill, we'll both learn...
