howdy, i finally got the pack mule dug out and was checking the lights and so forth. pretty dusted. bulb sockets corroded, wiring trashed, etc. since i have to replace the lights, does anyone have a suggestion for what to replace them with? i'm sure something has got to be better than these 25 yr old lights. also, where would i get heavier duty shock/lifts that hold up my roof? when i added the rack, the current lifts became inadequate. way back when i was using it, i just tied it off in the up position. i think it's time to improve the trailer. the LC in the background looked like the trailer a few months ago. hopefully i'll get the trailer looking like the LC in the near future. i think i attached the pics. i'm on dial up and this site is a nightmare for loading.

Unless you have some unusual size lights, LED lamps are the way to go. They're cheap now, last forever (almost) and present much less load on things like the flasher circuit that sometimes give trouble.

McMaster-Carr carries struts, but you may be able to get help at your local parts store, especially if you can tell what your old lift struts were rated at. If they're just old, replace with same or if they were always too weak, get ones with a little higher capacity lift rating.

Awesome trailer. Local parts store has LED taillights plus full wiring harnesses to run a 4 pin. Mcmaster is easy for the gas springs plus they have a calculator that will tell you excatly what force to buy.

^ what they sed. what is the purpose of the deflector on PS forward of tire?

if a wee bit longer in back to hold a second 5g can, might be near to perfect, for my purposes anyway....

Good afternoon,
I was doing a Google search and came up with this post. I too am a Pack Mule owner. Bought it in the mid 80's right after I purchased my Jeep CJ7 - still have both. Had it shipped to Indiana and ran them all over the midwest for many years. Mine is black and has the additional 32 gallon fuel tank option. When it was new I replaced all of the OEM wiring with an upgraded, grounded system and installed backup lights in the lower light sockets otherwise it is stock.

It is great to see there are others still out in the world. God's speed on your refurbishing the unit.

Funny,I just bought an fj40 and it came with a pack mule. Little bit of rust but otherwise solid. Neat little trailer.
