I've been lurking on the site for a while now and going through the mods that I have to do to make my hundie my own and one of the things that I needed was a brake controller. My LC came with the four pin trailer light connector but I needed the 7 pin with a controller. I have watched the threads on where to locate it and which controller to get and my path concluded with a Tekonsha P3 controller located in the ash tray, wiring the black and white wires to the battery, with the red to the cool side of the brake switch and running a new blue brake wire inside along the floor step covers and out by the sunroof drain in the rear drivers quarter panel. While most of it has been shown before, I went a little different with the dash install as I removed the ashtray tan cover (2 screws), and used me dremel to cut off the front of the ash tray and a rear portion for the wire. I then drilled two holes in the sides to use the controller mounting holes and supplied screws and can now slide the controller out like an ashtray. If I so desire, I can locate another ashtray back portion, screw on the faceplate and return it to its original condition. It fit's a little tight, depth wise, but it works fine.

One thing that I could not get over was the extremely short wires to the brake switch that precluded getting my large fat-fingered hands up there to tap the wire. So I surmised that the green/white wire had to go back to the brake lights somewhere, located it in the side panel and tapped it there. I used my tester to make sure that the wire went hot when the brake pedal was pressed. It works like a charm and si very easily accessible.

I hope that this info helps some other 100 owners as you all have helped me...so far.

Here are some pics.

Great write up! Nice to see someone else who tows. That spot is great to mount the controller in. There have been some good installations on here for that spot.
Here's my Tekonsha Escort sensor digital. Digital is the only way to go after havng so many analogs units over the years.

Thank you for showing the wire

How did you get the wire that runs to the back out of the cabin?

^ i ran the wire all along the side drivers side to the back and went thru a rubber plug in the trunk floor; when you pull up the carpet a bit you'll see multiple rubber plugs. easy access and i have it tucked away from the spare tire.

Im sure there is other ways to do it though maybe someone else can chime in with better method?

Thanks!! I was hoping to get the wire out near the sunroof drain, but I looked and can't find a way out.
