Wanted to share if it helps someone. My '97 LX acted like it didn't want to shift into drive recently after backing out of the driveway. The shift lever was fine, but it revved only. Dropped into L and it was fine, then shifted back up into D and was all good for a day. The next day at a stoplight it did the same and threw a code this time. P0753 Shift Solenoid "A" Electrical Malfunction.

After some Mud searching I started to inspect any wiring that I could get to and pull/clean plugs. It didn't take long. That is a broken pin stuck inside the plug. Crap!

Fortunately it came out with a little effort from a sewing needle and the plug was flushed with Deoxit. What a relief too that the broken part was cheap and easily accessible.

Drain/drop the pan, unbolt the retainer, remove the offending part and replace with new along with some dielectric grease and refill with fresh ATF. The pan looked good on the inside and now sports a shiny new plug and crush washer. After a week there have been no issues and shifts are smooth.
