When I saw the engine light stay on, I was pleased because I remember Toyota saying they couldn't pull any error codes UNTIL the light stayed on .. I also remember someone saying that some of the parts places/garages might pull the codes. Well I started at NAPA and they wanted $80!!! I basically told them they were fawked .. he told me that most of the garages in town were around the same. I told him even Toyota was around $30, and left to head to Toyota.
$28 to pull these (probably useless) codes . I was hoping for something more definitive finally .. *shrugging*
Buy new plugs, rotor and cap. Check the resistance of your plug wires (the acceptable range is posted here or in the FSM). If the roughness doesn't disappear, then something's up.
Be sure to label each plug you pull so you know what cylinder it came from. You'll want to closely compare them to each other when they're all out.
