P.S. Resevoir

I really need to flush my power steering fluid. tried to tackle this on Sunday to no avail. I couldn't for the life of me get the return hose off the resevoir fitting. I pulled the clamp way down the hose and then for 30 minutes tried to pull the hose off the fitting. Used a screw driver but just started tearing up the hose. I guess it's sorta dry rotted on there or something. I guess i will just get two new hoses and cut them in half, then try and get them off. Any suggestions?

Take some pliers and grasp the hose tightly at the point where it's still engaged on the fitting... Twist back and forth.

One of two things will happen.

A. It will loosen, and you're good to go.
B. It won't loosen, and it will tear up the hose.

there is a hose removal tool that works great but anything pointy(like a pick) will work, just slide it bewteen the hose and metal and work it around. Also there is a lip(can't think of the right word) on the metal tube under the hose.

I do the same as Wolfpack. Get the BF'n pliers and rotate the hose end back and forth to break the seal, and then pull it off.

I use the LandPimp method, but have yet to master it, as I keep jabbing myself with the pick!

I'm not real sure that poking yerself using the "Pimp" method is such a great idea.....

I did shove a small flat-head screw driver down between the fitting and the hose. All that was happening is the hose was tearing up. So i stopped. I really was pulling on the hose all i could, and i aint no . Still thinking about stopping by NAPA on the way home for some more hose so i can just cut the damn thing off. I almost pulled a bone-head move and spray some lube on the hose, but then i realized it would get into the power steering fluid.

Hi folks, I took Junk's advice and got vacuum hose pliers from Snap On. They work on a range of hose sizes from the smallest vacuum lines up to 1/2 inch inner diameter which should work well with the PS hose. They look like a hybrid between pliers and scissors and they put equal and opposite pressure on the hose and the metal tube where the bead or flange is. They work really well. HTH.

took the cruiser by the stealer to have the inspection done and front end aligned. Priced the two hoses for the power steering resevoir, they told me that the return hose was sold as a total package including all the metal hoses that it connects to. Crap i tell you. I will try one more time to muscle the hoses off, then it's going under the blade!

just get some stuff at the parts store I forget the size but thats what I used on my 40 and 60. return hose is low presure. For the high presure have one made(don't tell the hose shop it for PS.........it hygraulic hose for your wood spliter ) or buy new OEM or maybe(like a 60) there is a aftermarket hose for $35.

I used the hose pliers from here, and return hose from Car Quest.
