Had my DThorley Headers replaced with a new, mostly free, set. A couple of days out the vsc off and vsc trac lights go on. They jog off when I turn off the truck but come on as soon as i move. Tried jumping the resets under the hood etc. No dice. Took the truck to Summit Toyota in Akron Ohio today and they diagnosed the p/r range switch replacement. During some fast talking by the service advisor he seems dot suggest that they had to drop the tranny to replace the switch and that the total would be $600 for the switch replacement. Couldn't be tested without removal of the switch and because of interior corrosion in the switch (how does he know this) it would be destroyed by removal. Paperwork makes it clear that this is just a starting point in their hunt for the cause of the vsc lights. (FYI abs still functional but not ATRAK or VSC)

1. is the switch module easy access under the gear shift cover?

2. Us the switch really going to be destroyed by removing it to test their theory?

3. The tiny little green light that illuminates the shift lever position seems burned out, could that possibly be setting the whole system off?

Thanks for any help.

I love this site. I replaced the tiny little bulb that lights the floor shifter and it had no effect on my vsc off and vsc track lights. I had read earlier posts about the dash PRNDL lights and my P was out, so I thought about dismantling the dash to replace that light on the off chance that the burnt out P was part of the problem. Then i remembered that people have had success by slapping the dash over the lights to reseat them. So i stopped the truck, told the kids to not be scared and beat on my dashboard. I found that the 1:15 position on the humped part is the best place to hit the dash for getting the lights back on. P light came back on, VSC lights went off as of now everything is well with the world.

Just curious, did you replace your headers with OEM or another DT set? I have cracked headers and I'm on the fence about spending $800 on DT headers or $400-500 for new OEM ones.

Another DT set. The old ones had not actually gone bad. I had what I thought was a hole in the DSide header, but was actually just the DT medallion popping off and some corrosion. They sent new headers (uncharged for the higher grade stainless they are now using 100-200 maybe) for the difference in cost of first gen vs current. I have the old ones sitting in my laundry room, interested?
