Need some opinions here...a few days ago my temp was a bit high after driving around town in traffic a bit. Hasn't happened again, though I've been getting some boil over from the overflow tank, maybe 8-10oz? enough to make a thin puddle about 2 feet long under the truck. Radiator is 1 year old, cap is 1 year old. T-stat is opening.

Antifreeze mix too light?

If the t-stat is stuck open would that cause this?

Or with 115 degree temps am I in normal range? I don't recall it happening last year.

Get some water wetter, I think 5-10 dollars problem fixed as long as the Tstat is working.... U can run straight water and water wetter and never have a problem... I use to in my drag car with a ristrictor plate... High RPMS never broke 200...
Auto Zone or Checker auto....

But yes Tstat staying open can cause over heating due to not being able to cool enought in the Rad. So make sure it also closes... Check first thing in the morning....

I am going to lean towards your t-stat. Have you ever changed it, and how long since if so? If you haven't changed it since you've owned the truck, you have to wonder when and if the previous owner ever changed it either.

I would say any boil over isn't good. Check all of the normal stuff first, is the cap holding pressure, how old is it, when it cools is the rad level low or only the tank? Fan belts, tight, slipping, age? Fan clutch have good drag? Debris on the front of the coolers? Leaks?

For hot areas close to or pure water will cool better than 50/50 mix, so I wouldn't worry about that until you figure it out.

its getting hot for a reason, products like water wetter dont work as advertised in a failing system and are only a temp bandaid at best.

as others have suggested go through the regular list and check or replace as needed.

adding to tools reply, it just might be time for a general tune up and maint. of the engine and cooling system. do a test or have a shop do a test to make sure your not getting exhaust in the cooling system, indicating a bigger problem. it could also be time to have the rad cleaned or re-cored.

i run about 30% glycol and a teaspoon of oil,,, i use marvel for all kinds of stuff.

i know its not a toy but my dodge04 cummins is getting a lil warm, since new the temp never went over200 now it hits 210. think i should do a t-stat when i change fluid? (the truck now has 105,000 mi)

EASY FIX... move north. :flipoff2:
