My '85 FJ-60 got hot on the way home. Started spewing coolant out of somewhere in the front of the block. I'm not too familiar with the 2F. Looks like maybe that's where the thermostat is? I'd rather get some idea of what I'm going after before I tear into it.

Thanks for any help.

Try to tighten all of the lines coming from, and going to the thermostat housing. I had this problem, and after a couple of tightenings, it was fixed.

That's just the type of answer I was hoping for! Time to go get greasy. Thanks!

No prob. Make sure to check the coolant lines that come/go to the bottom of the rad too. Plus, the ones that are lower on the passenger's side of the engine in the front. All of mine were loose.

Good luck!

It's definately coming out of what looks like the thermostat housing, or right next to it. When I add water it leaks out there, I can see it running down the front of the block.

Ouch, it should be an easy fix. A gasket and a few bolts right there in front of you. Might as well change the thermostat while you are doing it.

Mine seems to be leaking too, but I think it is coming from the water pump. It is spraying red all over the place under there.

Was your engine running when you saw the leakage from the housing?

I am going to try to tighten the hoses and cross my fingers. I really am having a hard time determining the location of the leakage as much spray is everywhere.

its probably just got rusty water maybe?

Looks like my leak is sourcing from the thermostat housing. That would probably explain the overheating.

I got the housing bead blasted and didn't replace the gasket because it was new. I guess that was a bad idea. I am going to buy another gasket to hopefully fix the problem. We shall see.

I am not going to lie, I am a little frustrated. I am loosing confidence in my mechanical skill daily.

I use the rule of thumb that if you take a part off that has a gasket, then it's a good idea to replace the gasket. Then it prevents the possiblility of it being bad. Sorry it's late for that. Next time though.
