I'm sorry for bugging your club's site, but I just had a birfield repaired (allegedly) in San Diego, and it appears to have broken again in Chandler, AZ (300 miles later) and I don't know a weekend mechanic who can fix it. I'm not that familiar with Land Cruisers, but would do the work to repair it if I were. I'd love the name of someone who could competently diagnose and fix the problem. This trip has already taken a week longer than I wanted/could afford and it's looking like another week if I wait until Monday

Thanks for the suggestion. Big Two is booked out through today, though.

To be honest, it sounds like the buzzing sound a bad bearing makes, only really loud. I might open it up to look at it today. Otherwise, it's sitting in a mechanic who opens on Monday's lot. I doubt any parts would be available on the weekend anyway.

You can try Kevin at Service Techniques in SW Chandler. Not sure he's open Saturday's though. 480-961-1483. He used to own a 62

Could it possibly just be the wheel bearing? What makes you think it is the birf itself?

I have wheel bearings if you need one at my shop. Let me know..

Check the preload on the wheel bearings first. Could be a loose bearing. Was the steering weird at all?

I would pull off the hub & rotor and manually spin the suspect birfcheck to see if it binds.
