I saw this rig across from Lowe's on South Blvd in Charlotte. I seem to remember it was for sale earlier this year. The guy at the car lot said the owner only had it for a week when he ran into a tree on Queens road. The paint "was" excellent, and someone spent a lot of money on this 40. The leaf spring was sheared in two. It has a saginaw power steering box. The tie-rods looked hacked together, and the "third" tie-rod had been cut off by a dull reciprocating blade 1" out from the tie-rod end. I wonder if something broke loose? I hope the guy is alright.

Hope the driver is ok.... a crash like that in an old cruiser could seriously hurt
 
It was there this afternoon. It looks like a 73 or so. Someone put in an OEM roll bar with three point seat belts. I have never seen on this crumpled.
 
Driver had a seizure and blacked out while driving. Sad story. There is almost nothing salvageable on the truck except emblems and 4 tires. It took a huge hit. The guy was in icu for a day or so but is out and ok now. Had it less than a week. It was a nice resto too. The owner of the lot bought it back from ins. Not sure why. He also owns my friend jacks old 83 fj40 now. He's a closet cruiser head

He is very lucky he was in a cruiser that could handle that impact.

Glad he is OK.
 
Thoughts and prayers for the driver and the family. I was rear-ended 10 years ago in my FJ62 by a Mitsubishi Gallant. The impact bent my muffler and bumper. The Gallant cracked the engine block and blew out all the glass, it was totaled. When the cop arrived on the scene she took one look at my truck and the his car and said, "I've got to get one of those".
 
Josh sent me a pic and told me about the cruiser several weeks ago after he first saw it. I went and spent an hour or two looking it and the '83 FJ40 over and talking with the current owner the following weekend. The owner's name is Kevin - fierykevbo on the boards but he hasn't been on in months. The 40 shown above is on the Kosmic Dealmakers lot across from the Lowes at South Blvd. and Iverson Way in Charlotte.

There was a family there thinking of buying it for parts the day I was there. Kevin was optomistic that a lot of it was usable. I'd hoped to get the tires and wheels and a few other things off it.

I'd emailed Kevin the afternoon I'd been there about joining us the Cruisn' Carolinas event in hopes he'd bring the '83 FJ40 up for a ride. I never heard back.

I believe I remember it from the craigslist dealer listing. There were a ton of pics, and it looked nice, just not 20k nice...

I see about $500 there now, although I could use the rear tub.
 
Update with the FJ40: the cruiser is dismantled now. Few parts to sell including the tub. Any interest? Available for local Charlotte pickup. Will post link to pictures.
