Has anyone else picked up the Import Direct 17-0744 knock sensor recently ? After reading several reports of people getting the OEM "M" sensor, I decided to order one to see. Despite the box stating "Made in Japan", this is a kind of generic looking sensor with no markings at all except the number "20231". Any thoughts on this one ? Maybe it's a rebox / return, or this is the current product they are selling now ?

Thanks,

Looks like they may have changed suppliers, or maybe same manufacturer changed the design of their aftermarket part?? Doesn't mean it won't work correctly. What was the price?

Did this work I have this part now and hope it works

I bought two of them when I refreshed the head on my '95, two years ago. They're both dead.

I bought two knock sensors about 6 years ago, both from O'Reilly's, their Import Direct line which were identical to the OEM parts and Made in Japan, the one I installed back then is still working.

At some point later the Import Direct part had changed, different manufacturer. Something else I've noticed with O'Reillys, what it says on the box doesn't always seem to correlate to where the part was actually made. Example: A Dorman harmonic balancer said Made in USA on the box but after some checking it turned out that part was made in Chy nuh (listed as such in O'Reilly's database).

Here's the photo showing an original OEM sensor on the left, the O'Reillys Import Direct part from 6 years ago on the right. Since then the supplier has changed, apparently not the same manufacturer. FWIW

IMHO if you can't find a Denso or NTK brand sensor, pay the man and stick with OEM (89615-30050).

FWIW RockAuto sells a NTK knock sensor for ~$100.

The ones I bought two years ago were definitely not OEM quality, but I knew that when I bought them. I'm frankly surprised they lasted as long as they did.
