Fremont-Winema National Forests Seek Comments on Travel Management Plan EA
Dear BRC Action Alert Subscriber,
The Fremont-Winema National Forests -- located in southern Oregon - are seeking public comment on their recently released Travel Management Plan Environmental Assessment (EA). The Forest Service (FS) is asking for your input during a 30-day public review and comment period, which will end on May 21, 2010.
The document evaluates a no-action alternative and three action alternatives that would designate roads, trails and areas for motorized vehicle use on the Forest. The Forest decided to consider additional alternatives to the Proposed Action (released in August 2009) after reviewing all of the public comments. These new alternatives analyzed the addition of selected closed roads to the motorized road and trail system.
The four EA alternatives are displayed in detail on 34 separate maps covering the entire Fremont-Winema National Forests. Paper maps are available for viewing at the Fremont-Winema National Forests' Offices, each of the Ranger District offices, the Lakeview Interagency Office Headquarters and the Klamath and Lake County Libraries.
The Forest Service (FS) is seeking input from everyone who uses the forest! If you care about which roads, trails and areas should be open to motorized use and want to be heard, take the opportunity to participate in the upcoming public involvement process.
Two open houses will be held in April to provide an opportunity for the public to view hard copy maps of the EAs alternatives and ask questions. These open houses will be informal and the public is welcome to come anytime between 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on the following dates:
* Monday, April 26, 2010 - Lakeview: Lakeview Interagency Office, 1301 South G. St
* Tuesday, April 27, 2010 - Klamath Falls: Ross Ragland' Cultural Center, 218 North 7th St
Public comments are invited and should be as specific as possible. Please include your name, address, telephone number and organization represented (if applicable), and specific facts or comments with supporting reasons that the Responsible Official should consider in reaching a decision. Comment deadline is May 21, 2010.
