Yes it has to flex in a little to get access to the clip behind. OEM, it is just particleboard; plastic if it is a high end refurb piece.

Yeah. My 1/4" spacers came in the mail today. I was able to put my front wheels on. I am so stoked on what a decent sized tire can do for the overall looks of the rig.

Yes, that Landrover has been part of my inspiration for that look. The last Bond movie had that same Landrover in it. I believe it is a 1962 remake if I remember correctly. Personally, I think it is going to be the next big look for 4x4s for a while. I think Jeep has already started in that direction

I forgot to share about installing the seat belts from the minivan seats I snagged at Pick-n-Pull. I had to fabricate a few custom mounting brackets for each of the locations which was no biggy. The only issue I had was when I over extended the belt, it would require that I retract it all the way back before you could pull it out again. The problem was I could not retract the belt far enough to reset the pulley system so i wound up taking each of the retractors apart and got rid of that annoying feature. The belts still have the acceleration lock on them which is all that is needed in my opinion. I am pleased with these seats. They are supper comfortable and fit well. The front seat has a little space to climb around to the back on the passenger side. As long as I don't have a rear passenger door, this passthrough space will be needed.

I very nearly bought one of those Land Rover 4 door pickup in Australia but after driving it for a few hours on loan from the dealer in preparation for ordering one, I found it to be so uncomfortable that I could not do it. They look super-cool and the drive train is amazing (with the turbo diesel, I've never seen one with the petrol and would not be interested in the old Buick V8). However, I am 6'6" and they have some odd bulkhead in-between the front and rear seats which keeps teh seats from sliding back a decent amount. They are also so high that I could not see stop lights through the windscreen without ducking down and the indicator is on the wrong side of the stalk for a RHD (they are too cheap to swap it to the right for RHD, so it is on the left as it would be in a LHD. Thus when indicating and downshifting, your left hand is running around like a concert pianist). Overall, it felt like it was made VERY cheaply with poor-quality plastic trim which would likely break within a few years and exceptionally rudimentary controls. For about the same price as a Cruiser, it is not at all surprising that they sell so few of them in Australia.

Well, I am in the middle of it now. Taking off fenders and panels to sand down, prime and paint. Of course, every time I take a body panel off I find 10 more things I could do. I can't wait for the weekend where I could work during the day instead of at night. My poor wife, last week I signed up for the Netflicks downloads so now she can watch all of the BBC type of movies she likes. THis has freed me up to work on the rig in the evenings after work
My friend Marty brought his Landrover to work today. We like to talk "shop" at work on our projects. He is more experienced than I am so I get to glean a lot of good ideas off of him.

Nice - good to have the modern safety stuff. Too bad air bags are too dangerous to mess with, aftermarket. Get that wrong and it could kill you by itself.

I haven't done a whole lot lately but did add a stereo. I had an old stereo from a previous car and some old home speakers. I just wood screwed the speakers from the bottom side of the wheel wells. The sound is awesome!

I took the summer off from working on the rig and just enjoyed using it. Now that fall is here and winter is coming, I've decided to start up again and weather proof it starting with sealing the fenders underneath. I had an extra pint of Herculiner (roll on bedliner) and applied it to the underside of the front and rear fenders. I should have worn gloves because this stuff is a bear to get off.

It's been a while. I started working on the original top that came with the Troopy. Not a whole lot that is going to be done on the top, mostly matching paint and a few fixes here and there. Scraped the old filler in the rain gutters with a knife and wire wheel. Also, primed the outside, (self-etching on the metal).

Since I really like the FJ40 top much better than the troopy top, I will only be using the big top 1 month out of the year most likely. Because of that, I want to have fun with it. I decided to paint the top zebra. My wife is not a fan of the idea but I think it might grow on her if done right. I found a zebra print online and penciled it out on the grey primed top. Then I rattle canned the white free hand. The photo shows the first coat. I wound up doing 4 coats until all of the white is uniform. Then I started taping over the white areas. I stated painting and taping but had to stop due to a very rare event here in California, it rained.
Awesome build, and whats cooler is it looks like you did it while camping.

Ya, the trees keep on dropping sap. So the canopy is more of a sap catcher than anything else.
