OK - I did the searches, and want to get a Yellow Top. I have read the info on the orbitals, red top vs. yellow, yellow vs. blue, etc.

The only problem is that I cant seem to find out which one to buy. One series mentioned 21, doesn't seem available anymore. Optima's site doesn't list a replacement for my cruiser fj62. I have the standard stainless steel tray already installed. Which model, if any will fit without modifications?

Thanks

Jack

The group 31 Yellow top will fit in the standard battery tray, but you may need to alter the hold down a bit to go over the slightly higher top. Noel (SS battery trays) has a special hold down bar for the group 31 Optima Yellow top.

I must be web-challenged - when I go to the optima site, under the Automotive, Deep Cycle, Technical Specifications link I dont see a Group 31 listed either. I see BCI group34/78 75/25 34 35 51 & 51R
Did they quit making the group 31?

The group 31 is a marine battery, so look under that heading.

I have a 31 as my dual set up also - it will fit, but is about 2 inches taller, so you will need the special holddown mike was talking about.

Mark whats with all that red coloring in your engine bay!

The only group 31s I see are the marine battery and are only offered in the Blue Top. It seems from the previous posts that there isn't much difference between the blue and yellow top, but I just want to make sure.

So why go with a marine battery in a cruiser? Since they are made to handle deep cycles?

The blue top had better CCA (I believe) and better vibration resistance.

I went with a 34 series. It was actually a little small in there so I had to put a block of wood in there to boost it up a little.

Hey dude,
Check out my photos on yahoo.com.

Go to the folder for the fj62 and you will see my yellow tops. I had to do no mods to fit the primary battery, only the secondary battery. Built a tray out of 1 inch L-angle and welded it right up. Then went to Toyota for the factory bolts and piece to hold down the battery. Hope this helps man.
