I got an optima red top.
Had it for about 4 years now.
Recently (2 week back).
I had to take it to pep boys to have it recharged
Today my truck would not start and had to get a jump start.
My alternator is about a year old.
I wonder if my red top or my alternator have turned into a lemon?

Cheers.......

Red top

Unless you spend a lot of time on your side, get a conventional battery.

Manuchao, why did the battery need charging? Did you let it sit a long time? That might have made it lose its juice, although i thought optimas were suppost to be good about that type of thing.

Mace, you not like optimas or just think conventional is more cost effective? Most of the press ive seen about them has been good. I was considering a new battery as i add accesories and was looking into getting one.

If your red top has been completely/deeply discharged(which theoretically could happen from a dying alternator) once or more during the four years it's life will be shortened.

Had a red top in my fj40, would sit for 6 weeks sometimes, then crank right up.

No acid on my refurbished battery tray, no spills when I let it shake loose once, As good as any wet battery I've ever had.

sounds like you'v got another problem?

Don't think you gain much with a red top over a conventional battery other than spill proof.

The cost of a red top does nto justify the use in a Truck that does not see it's lid alot.

The red top in my FJ40 sits for months at a time and has yet to not start.

If I had to pay retail for them, I would probably live with a conventional though.

If you are worried about spilling battery acid just buy a hard plastic battery box. I am sure you could fine one to fit and even secure it down.

Take it back to pep boys and have them check the alt.

Well, its 2 pm and I been doing some errands around town.
So far so good.

Pluton, yes it sat for a good 8 months inside the garage, this is why it had to be taken to pep boys.
I was thinking the same thing
Everything else seems to be working fine....
If it is the battery then I'll just go for a convetional one.
Well, thanks for all the input guys.
