I have my eye on a 71-40 listed here on mud, fuel injected on 37's in FL. This would be a 3rd vehicle, occasional dd, occasional trail- 40. Your thoughts and opinions on price, build and what questions to ask, would be helpfull. This would be my second 40, so not to familiar with them and what to look at, I learned my lesson the first time :bang:.

Either point us to the ForSale ad, or give a LOT more details... happy to help, just not enough info here.

At first glance, that's a heck of a deal. Bandy Rooster is well respected in the 40 forums, so I doubt anything is hacked up on the truck. I would ask if it has been cut an turned. From the pinion angles in the pics, I'm going to guess not. That may or may not be an issue, but it's such any easy thing to do when you have the housing torn down for SOA, can't imagine why anyone wouldn't do it.

That drivtrain is pretty nice setup for offroad, but I don't think you'll want to plan much time DD it. Then again, I'm spoiled to my cush 2500HD and driving my 40 (w/ the same SM465/tcase), I don't beg for any opportunity for long trips. Then again, I still have the 2F so the gear spacing rears it's head more than it would on that truck.

I'm not a huge fan of how he did the competition cut - but to each his own. I also don't care for the roll cage design. I'm afraid I'd be banging my knees on the a-pillar.

Seats are dope. Hysteer appears to have been done right - I'd ask but I think those are the small pattern knuckle (which would kind of suck if you wheel it hard).

That's my initial thoughts, but I think if as advertised, that's a very good price.

with cash in hand I'd a beat you to it ;)

Ramon makes a lot of good points and even still in this market I considered it a good deal.
A lot of truck and work has been done for the price and it still remains a clean truck.
While drivetrain is geared torwards offroad I have a similar setup and its tolerable on road, just drive it for what it is........ big HD truck

best of luck.

Thanks guys for all the info, I feel pretty comfortable buying the 40 from Wes, I do worry about locating a decent hard top and doors for decent price. I have found a soft top and doors but wonder how I will like it.

If Wes still has the 40 the first week of April when we go down to st.augustine, I will personally drive it and take a look. If not I will move on, thanks for all the opinions and info! Still may be interested in anything local. Say, a 4runner(1st or 3rd gen), 40 or 60, budget is about $7k. Thanks

What in particular are you looking for ?

IE: Must haves .

I guess that is part of my problem, I am really unsure. Something I can dd a couple times a week, will carry at least 3, hit the trails a few times a year and not break my $7k budget ( hardest part)! I have owned a few 4runners, a 40 and a 80. I know I don't want another 80 but any other Toyota product I am open to. My wife, really wants me to get a j--p!
