[For Sale] 2 1979 Toyota FJ40's - North Carolina 4x4 Forum

I think this got linked in here earlier too? It is for sale somewhere here on IH8MUD but I cannot find the link at the moment?

Matt and I spoke, we are looking at trading my 85 for the 2 FJs, but I really don't know much about FJs (yet!)

Matt and I both have spent way too much $$ on our rigs / but both seem to have something the other wants.

I have been thinking of going less aggressive, more "resto" wheeling (ONSC influence - loved Jon's green cruiser at the mtg in July)

I would prefer automagic but doubt that happened back then, might look at lower gearing in the tcase?

Tell me what you know, think... Sam

Sam, dont know what to tell you there. The 40 looks nice and hes had em up for sale for a while. Mud add is under toothdoc name i believe. It looks like a decent deal depending on what you had into yours. If thats the direction you wanna go it looks nice but i thought you were more into the other end of the spectrum mostly.

And the auto never happened in the 40s. That is until someone put a 350 in it :D
or you just slip an orion in there

but if your going to build it back into a somewhat crawler(ie modded susp and bigger meats) there are pre-built rigs i think you could swap yours for at a better deal.

Yeah, this would not be nearly as aggressive / am thinking I want my rig to be more driveable to the OBX each year, and the easier stuff at URE, take the bypasses, etc.

He has a 4" OME lift on there and basically 33s - one worry is the stall factor, nice part about mine is the 100:1 eliminated that. (Orion = OUCH, just looked up that cost, $1600+)

1 part of me wants to jump on it, go more for the resto look and lite wheeling, pull a pop up camper, etc. But I was really thinking more of an a/c and automatic rig for that...
