Ok, so I have the ProComp 33-12.50-17 Mud Terrains for my winter rims but they get crap for mileage on the highway, as well as leaving their precious rubber there. I have a second set of steelies for the road and just can't make a choice. Does anybody have mileage v. wear and cost opinions? My first choice is something akin to 32x10.50x17 all terrains. But a 60k rock hard compound is very appealing too. Oh my, all the choices.

The second set of tires on my FJC were Toyo Open Country AT's in 285/70/17 and they were awesome road tires and did credibly well off-road. No highway noise, good gas mileage (before I weighted my truck way down) and when I replaced them after 60,000 miles they still had plenty of good tread on them - would have easily passed inspection. Highly recommended for your application.

I like my 285/70/17 BFG All terrains good wear and offroadability, with little noise.

I too have the toyo 285x70x17 AT and they are great. no complaints.

Just threw on 295/70/17 nittos on and like them so far. Really fills up the wheel openings.

X2 on the Nittos. I saw a significant mileage increase and improved ride over the BFG A/T's I started with. And they are just as good on the trail.

I personally LOVE my Firestone Destination MT's...great wear-low (relatively) noise-GREAT performance in all conditions.
Never thought I'd endorse Firestone after coming from a Michellin/Pirelli/etc. sports car background...always ran AT's on my Jeep, but the minute I got my TRD I bought pro-comp steelies and the FS MT's

36-k and still well more than 2/3's on the tread (rotated twice already-5 tires).

I don't have experience with a Nitto Terra G on my FJ but my buddy with an F250 loves them. I had good experience with the BFG KO AT but they were as heavy as my KM2s. My other choice for a street tire is the Bridgestone Revo. The Revos had good wear, quiet, and better gas mileage then the KO. They're not as tough as the KOs but do well in snow, mild offroading, and street.

I'm guessing the tires it came with are probably the best mileage type tire for the vehical. lots of people take them offf so lots of used ones out there too. It doesn't make sense to buy at, mt, toyo, nitto, etc tires if your going cheap. Don't pay ~200 a tire to save a mile or two per gal?

Get some 265/70/17 BFG AT's or Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor's. That will be the size you are looking for and they also will last and ride just the way you want.

I've got the same, but 285/70/17's and under normal daily driving conditions a good tire with little noise and great handling. I've had mine on for about the last 35K miles (out of 58K total) and very little wear. However under some major flex (compression of front wheels) they will rub the upper control arms. I've wheeled them at Moab and Katemcy and the rub was not noticeable from inside the cab, but I had shiny spots where the side wall rubbed the paint off the stock arms. Not a big deal, probably true of most 285's, but I plan on upgrading my UCA's soon anyway.

Tire Rack

Go to www/tirerack.com

Pick all the tires that you like & will fit

Then compare ALL reviews.

I think you'll find the Firestone Destination MT's (I prfer the "E" rated version) outpprforms in virtually EVERY CATEGORY.

Print the price out, take it to a Firestone tire dealer or any other tire joint, and they'll match your price (sometimes minus the shipping). Or order from Tire Rack.
