For those of you who've been around the block a time or two... is this good, bad, indifferent? Would you be complaining???

i know it can differ with each style of granite, but our counter tops were recently redone, as well as my parents house and that seems like a pretty large seam. Our counter tops are almost black, and it doesn't have the marbling like yours does. This does make it easier to produce less visible seams.

can you feel it or just see it? I have some friends that have a similar color/style granite and they have similar visible seams and was told that was the best they could get them but Im not sure the contractor was top notch. It looks pretty uniform except the front bullnose edge looks like it fits tighter. just an illusion?

my parents had one you could catch a fingernail on and they came back and hit it with a 4'' grinder going through a dozen or so different grits and finally ending with a paste and i was amazed at how it was worked down and polished up great.

You can feel it is there, but not a "ledge". A penny slides across it easily. I'm getting a lot of mixed feedback everywhere I turn. We'll see what the contractor says - this was done by a sub. I absolutely love the stone though! Thanks folks.

ETA - the fit at the bullnose is perfect - they sanded that in similar fashion to how you described and you can't tell there is a seam there.

I'll ask my father in law, and see what he thinks. He did kitchen and bath remodels for a living...

I did kitchens and baths for years and always had a granite guy do the tops. The seam looks "wide" to me and the adhesive is too light in color. It should not stick out visually like that.

That particular color is hard to seam as it is hard to match pattern and you can generally notice the seam, but not the adhesive.

My 2 cents

While I don't install it and I don't have it in my house, my parents do run a fairly large upscale kitchen and bath remodeling company and I've never seen one look that bad on one of their jobs I've helped deliver to.

Agree with the adhesive being a little light in color. The one area close to the front, where the two crystals almost make a full circle, show the color of the seam, and that is where they should of produced the color from. A darker color should not of stuck out as much. If it is razor blade wide, then they could dig out the color and try again. It wouldn't be the first time our company has returned to try and do a better seam. When you have deadend colors coming into a seam, then it is hard to match.
My first job in this business was to match as close as you can.
I have been in the granite and marble business for 20 years. We have gone as far as putting in different colors along the seam to try and blend. Some good and some bad results.
If you are not happy with the look, talk with your installer about options.

The epoxy adhesive looks like it might be a shade light, but it if were darker, it would show more in the lighter areas. Certain granites are harder to seam than others.

However, if the granite fit tighter and had a smoother cut without any chip out so what ever then the joint would look nicer.

I can come look at in person if that will be helpful

Installer is going to come back - contractor agreed with what some of you mentioned that the epoxy is too light. Thanks for the feedback folks. Learn something new every day. I personally am not "pissed" about it - and I'm sure I can live with it. But, if I felt we were getting hosed (this is not a cheap reno) then I'd want to demand better on principal.

Sounds like a good plan. Quality is what any good installer would shoot for.
Different material, but had to cut right through a pinkish rock, so it shows some. Dark material so easier to hide.

The owner of the granite company came today and redid the color on the seam. Scraped out a tad w/ a razorblade and redid the color. Much, much better. Thanks all for the feedback.

Good job on behalf of the sub - Respect!
