What's open and close to Denver? I'd like to take a day trip this weekend to test out my LC's 4x4 ability. Any have any good recomendations that won't destroy my truck?

The closest might be the old mining roads behind central city and blackhawk. There is also jackson Creek in Castle rock that attaches to Rampart Range Road. (thats a two hour round trip back to castle rock). Spring Creek is straight south of Idaho springs but its a bit gnarly and body damage risk is higher. If there are any closer to Denver then that, then I am interested too.

Kingston Peak

Less than an hour from Denver are some really neat back country trails. Up around St. Mary's Glacier. I used to live up there so know the place pretty well. I am not sure if all the snow is gone yet, might need a few more weeks. Here is a link to the trail and directions.

Have fun! Also check out Red Cone/Webster Pass.
