Not directly tech but very tech related if you own any 4X4 in NSW Australia, though I'm told this law will be brought in across the country as soon as they can get the paperwork sorted.

This was intended to shutdown the sparks showering low riding mini trucks, and the doof doof rice burner crowd but when numbnut shinybums start writing regulations you know they're out to kill of everyones fun.

If this attachment doesn't work you'll find it on the NSW RTA website.

One of my workmates owns a Range Rover Vogue with the Air suspension, he brought it to my attention, He is filthy because it means he could be pulled up at anytime and get harassed for his ride height. Even though its standard for his model. Its not that the RTA inspectors don't have enough to do already.

Just try and find an engineer to sign off on your modest 2" lift. After this it'll be nigh on impossible. Don't even think about putting 35's on.

For those in the rest of the world, the process of getting a vehicle registered in this state is a bit arduous. The rules seem to change often at random.
We have yearly roadworthy inspections for registrations renewals. You can get failed for minor things including worn windscreen wiper rubbers (a favourite of the inspectors).
Yes they do safety checks on brakes and lights. They also hunt out any rust you might have but they love to pull you up for anything that looks non standard. Next will be emissions testing for every vehicle presented.
Although most inspections are done at accredited mechanics, they're under the thumb to cross every t and dot every i. There's very little room for negotiation.
Probably why so many of Oz cruisers get shipped to the U.S. and Canada.

It keeps getting harder to just enjoy our lives.

Politicians will inflict on you anything that YOU allow them to, if you don't like it fight it. Remeber they work for you. The best way to fight these things is to call your local member and the relevant minister, call them every day, call them several times a day, email them dozens of times a day. Get them to explain in detail what the new law involes, get them to explain every little technicality, throw every red herring at the you can find (eg. cars that are sold standard with adjustable suspension heights), ask them to prove that the new laws will make things safer.

Trust me it works, being a pain in their arse and absorbing bulk amounts of their time is the only way to get these turkeys to listen. Lets stop whinging about this sort of stuff and lets do something about it.

Unfortunately NSW is the busted a#se state, the politicians here stopped listening to the electorate years ago. Being in the Newcastle area is worse as it is known as a rusted on constituency for the governing party. We got 2 more years of this before we get a chance to change it.

I just wanted to let local (NSW) Mud members know, as this wasn 't widely publicised due to other things going on. I agree that we should protest these unfair changes, it just needs much more than one voice to do so.

These thing happen because we tolerate them.

Well people pester power works!

Just got announced today, on page 20 of the paper, that the "Hoon" suspension law has been canned!

Apparently the minister was ignorant of the facts, who'd a thunk that...

Good news for us in the bustedarse state

Good stuff! A win for common sense.

I heard about some rumblings going on a couple of days ago that sounded like this new law was going to be reversed. An example was given by a local mechanic who retrofits cars for wheelchair access. In order to do this he must lower the vehicle but under these now canned laws he would not be able to.

Yay I can go back to planning a suspension lift and 35's!

Yup more pressure is being put to bear by various car/4x4 clubs and industry reps. The stupid thing is that there are already national and state laws which already deal with this issue.
We can thank the mini truck and doof doof boys for making the government think it has to "do " something...
