Hey trendsetters.

Just scrolling through here, ive decided to bite the bullet and have a crack at pulling out my gearbox and transfer, and replacing it with a new fully refurbed one..

I have manuals and tips and hints and all sorts, but I'm still trying to find as much as i can on this..

Anyone able to point me in the direction of a walkthrough that someone has done, for doing this, you know the one with all the helpful hints and tips, and the 'dont forget to do this first' kinda things..

Pulling it out of an 89 HJ75 troopy.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kurt

Well, should be a pretty straight forward swap if you are replacing the gearbox and split case with the same.

While you are at it, might as well think about doing the clutch while you have the gearbox off, and you can take a look at your rear main seal also. replace the gearbox mount while you are at it. Also, since you'll be pulling the drive shafts, good time to do the Ujoints.:meh:

Its quite easy, its just lowering and lifting the big lump which makes it a PITA.
I guess you will be doing it in the driveway, you can hire a small gearbox lifter for this.
Its vital the gearbox doesnt drop while the shaft is still in the clutch or you could end up with a bent input shaft.

I would budget for machining the flywheel and a new clutch. I would also do the rear main oil seal.
This would ensure you dont have to take it off again for a long time.

sweet thanks gents..

i just wanted to make sure there was no hidden tips that didnt seem obvious.. they are the ones i end up missing..

looks like i have something to do over the weekend. ha ha

Just make sure you have enough room to move it backwards..
I went to drop my auto out a few years back and it wasnt until I was halfway thru moving it back that I realized the exhaust was in the way... Had to cut it off ...

Same goes for cross members..
Otherwise a trans lift is a must.... And nice flat smooth ground for the lifter to run on....

the gearbox and transferbox are really heavy. your gonna need a good trolley jack if your working close to the ground. can you rent the use of a lift?
