So the guy rebuilt my transmission with new planet sets. However, when he drove it after he put it all back together, it would go into nuetral when it hit overdrive. He had to shut the overdrive off to get it back to the shop. He has now taken it all back apart and is still working on it today. Anyone got any idea what he might have missed so that I could give him some possible ideas. I really want my Cruiser back and I promise I will never think about trading it in again.

Wow, bummer. :frown: I am not a tranny specialist by any stretch. This is why if/when my MY 2000 tranny goes I'm just gonna drop in a Toyota reman'd unit. Hopefully it's not something too hard to rectify. I recall one guy on here putting in a used tranny, iirc, the rest just went with reman'd over rebuild.

I put a new internal bearing in a Tacoma manual transmission several years ago and I can tell you that disassembly and reassembly of transmissions is not for the faint of heart. There are probably several things the mechanic could have messed up in the mechanical, hydraulic, or electrical systems to get that symptom. Unless he's really experienced it may be a lot of trial and error to get it right. You want your transmission mechanics to have some grey hair and be perfectionists. Get a good warranty on that work if you can.
