I bought the dakar OME S/R kit (from MAF) Any idea where this to "spacers" (I think) go? I also go the ubolt flip kit but I don't think it belongs to that.

I got those spacers. They sit around the rear leaf spring centering pins. The holes in the rear axle are bigger than the centering pins so these center the pins up with the axle. I had to trim mine down some to make them fit.

When you tighten up the u-bolts you don't want the spacer to hit the bottom of the axle or limit getting the u-bolts tight. I would shave off about a 1/4 the width to start with and see how they fit.

1/4" seems like a lot, & it implies that OME doesn't know what they're doing. I know this has been addressed in other threads (but am too lazy to check) - what is the concensus? Is the problem only with the u-bolt flip kit?

Right I came across that thread aswell...

so they might need to grinded off a little correct...?

I think it depends more on the axle. I was told some fit better than others. Also I meant 1/4 the width of the spacer not 1/4". I had to shave off more to make mine fit.

When you remove the stock rear springs, there is a "U" shaped isolater in between the spring and the axle. It's made of steel, but has a rubber liner. This isolater gets discarded when you do the OME install. You'll see when you remove the isolater why you need this spacer. The hole in the axle is much bigger than the spring pin. The spacer fills the gap.

I'm doing this same thing right now. Got my MAF kit a couple days ago and I'm my way to Home Depot to get a torch. :)

Damn a torch! What's with that? take some pics before, during and after, I'll do the same...except that I bought ublot flip kits for front and rear and I think I mixed the 2 up. and Installed a rear kit in the front and when I went to do the rear on that same side the lower shock mount won't let the rear springs sit flush on the lower bracket/shock mount.

Hey..I don't mean to jack your post, but why did you end up going with MAF for your OME kits rather than someone else? I looked around and it seemed like Kurt at Cruiser Outfitters had the same kit for the same price.
Just wondering because I'm going to be getting my OME kit next month.

I did talk to Kurt a few times regarding a SOA, very nice and informative. I honestly didn't compare prices because MAF sold there's as kit complete kit 4" with S/R... I guess it was just the way it presented online sold it to me; so-to-speak. (was hooked by the marketing tatic :-)

OK...I get it, your kit was the 4" w/SR.

I've bought lots of stuff from Kurt, bugged him w/stupid questions, and he insists on being polite and informative. Nothing against MAF, but I always try to steer my business to the little guy whenever possible if the price is within reason.

I agree with giving business to the little guy, an dI'll admit that I did try several times to call Kurt first. I got a recording each time and I called within the listed business hours. Not taking anything away from Kurt, since he is good contributing and very helpful member of the community, but I just moved down the list to the next OME vendor after making several attempts to get a hold of him on the phone. I even called some local ARB dealers in Chicago, but their level of expertise about cruisers was nil and couldn't even get me the right part numbers for the kit I wanted. I called MAF and talked to Steve-O and he was real helpful answered all my questions. The price difference was negligible and MAF included extended sway bar links in their kit.

I've got a few pics of pre-lift, and so far I have the fronts completely done. Gonna pick up a pickle fork for the stablizer tomorrow and hopefully by Wed night I'll have the rears done. I had a few SNAFUs along the way, such as both spring pins were fused to the rotted rubber bushings. Each one took about an hour to finally come out. The driver's side u-bolts needed to be cut off with a cut-off wheel, and basically anything in contact with rubber bushings were a nightmare to get off and/or out. Everything fit together pretty easily and the MAF u-bolts and bushings seem to be of pretty good quality, definitely on par with SOR.com stuff and worlds better than the average CCOT parts. The rears should be easier since they were off about a year or two ago for some add-a-leafs so hopefully they'll go smoother. I'm working by myself too, so no tag-team work action goin on here.

Looking back after doing the fronts so far, I'd rather do about 10 PHH's on my 80 and about 5 manifold gaskets than replace my own springs again. :D

I hear ya about the little guy, this is my first cruiser, and I'm only in month 3 of owning it so I'm sure they'll be more to money to spread around.

I enjoyed changing my old springs. It was one of the first major projects I did on my 60. There are not many project where you get to get out the big hammer.

True that.

The BFH sure is a fun tool to swing every so often.

I used the isolator metal/rubber thingy when I installed mine, but mine didn't come with the spacers you got. I installed them withouth the "isolator" and realized I had a problem so I took them off and put that thing back on, no problem. Been driving on them for over a year now and everything is gravy.
