The front brake rotor is the SAME part# for all 100 series L/C`s 1998-2005...the only difference I see is the Caliper # and pads are different after 2002...That should not be an issue (as far as slapping a set of the early 16" wheels on yours)....

I would, at all costs, rid yourself of the 18"`s if you plan on doing any serious off-roading, even if you were considering putting a large 18" tire on them...

The 16`s will keep your rims (and outer bead) out of harms way !! (trust me, you should SEE my 18" wheels after a year of hard use..they are trashed, not to mention the valve stems I have ripped totally off in deep sand !!)

I do not think it is rotor issue I think it is a caliper issue i.e. that is why 16's will not work on later 100's. I have heard this over and over BUT I have 0 real experience with this. The fact that the part numbers are different-calipers might lend salt to this.

Easy way to determine-find someone with a 16" wheel and swap them ( :

Well, I just took some "crude" measurements on my 2000 w/the newer stlye 18" rims, and on a 2004 w/the same (as mine) wheels....

The calipers have the same clearance on both vehicles as far as "width" goes...should not be a problem...

The closest point between the caliper/rim (where the real issue would be as far as wheel diameter goes is...

2" on the 2000 model

1 1/2" on the 2004 model

If you minus out 1" on either side of the rim by dropping to 16"....It appears that you would still have approx. 1/2" clearance between the (16") rim and caliper....

Mind you, these were as I mentioned crude measurements, but it looks like they would fit...The 03-up calipers look slighty longer and a tad bit taller than the pre-03 caliper....I guess there is only one way to find out !!
