before you reinflate the tire you smear it around the bead...its alil tacky

Depends what you're trying to achieve. It worked fine for trying to keep rims or tires in service a little longer than practical. 
Don't forget you'll have to either clean it off the rims or tires again (whichever are going to get reused).

I had a nasty gouge taken out of my sidewall of a fairly new tire, took it to a tire place (Toce Bros) in Torrington, CT They did a vulcanized patch a year ago, still going strong.

Started getting used a lot more with the corrosion problem with some aluminum rims.
