Just replaced the driver rear half-shaft, since I couldn't press out the old studs. Rig was in 4wd, since I had had to use the front wd to move the 60 after I had pulled the spider gears (by accident). While putting the spider gears back in, and sealing up the pumpkin, I had to put the transfer case in neutral so I could move the side gears around to get everything back where it should be.

Put everything back, shift back to 2hi, nothing happens. Hmm. Shift to 4hi or 4low, and the transfer case does put motion to the front wheels. Checked the rear driveshaft, no wiggle.

I've been looking on the 60 forum, but can't find this set of circumstances. Before I put it down on the ground, I had spun the wheels while it was on the jackstands, and both moved without difficulty. Is it possible for the tc to only provide to the front, or is there something goobered with the rear diff?

Not a RTH situaiton, have other vehicle available, but rather frustrating since this is the first nice weather weekend, and I've been under the rig all day, and did it by the book. Anyone gone through this, or have a direction I should investigate?

I guess I'm just a little confused as to the problem. You replaced the driver side rear drive shaft on your semi float right? Now you don't have power to your rear wheels. Did you have power in the rear before you did this? How did you accidentally take out your spider gears? Did you do anything to your transfer case?

Semi-float. Had removed the 1/2 axle about 4 weeks ago to try an get some sheared lugs pressed out - without any luck. In the process of trying to use the extremely poor diagram in the FSM, I managed to get the spider gears out while trying to figure out how to remove the c-clip that holds the axle splined end against the side gears. Ended up not putting them back in place, just sealed the pumpkin, pushed the axle back in place, and parked the rig.

Today while putting the new axle in place, the 4x4 was still active, and I couldn't rotate the side gears to reset the spiders and axle. Went and put the tc in neutral, and was then able to rotate the gears (wheels up, on stands). When I finished, I put the tc back in 2hi, and nothing happened. Put back in 4hi or 4lo, the front drivetrain pulled the vehicle along. Was working just dandy fine, except for sheared lugs before I started this process.

Then you must have reassembled your diff wrong, that is the only possible solution if it was working fine before this. I don't know what you could have done wrong, youre prob gonna have to pop your inspection cover off and check it out. Might be a good idea to take a picture too if you are unsure and upload it so somebody can point you in the right direction. So you know you put your axle gears and spider gears back in right?

Pretty sure. Seems to be only the one way to reassemble it, since the pinon (?) goes through both spider gears and is pinned in place. I'll see if I have enough enthusiasm tomorrow to jacking it back up and verifying if I can spin the back wheels and watch the drive shaft rotate - I'm figuring I don't have a bind on the diff, since the wheels turned on the road, but at least I can get an idea if I hear a god-awful grinding sound. :)
