I am replacing the PCV valve, gasket and hose on my 1972 F Engine 40 and after removing the old PCV valve there is a lot of gunk I can see in the tube coming of the side of the crankcase. Is there something I. An or should spray in there to loosen that up/clean it out or will that harm something? Thanks for any help.

I wouldn't wash scuz/trash down into the oil with any sort of spray. You make a big q-tip with some gauze and screwdriver. Tape the gauze to the screwdriver, wind on the gause - leave it a little undersized. Insert the swab centered, then rotate the swap as you pull it out while you drag around the circumference. All the trash will be pulled out.

Thanks that sounds safer, wasn’t sure where the gunk would go if I washed it out. Thanks.
