Well...how was I to know the torque was only 15 Ft Lbs....never mind that I have my 100.00 service book only 10 feet away....What are my options? heli coil? or what? thanks in advance...Garth:bang:

ouch..yes I would think a stripped drain plug in a transmission lends to either a heli-coil perhaps as a second option to just replacing the pan. not sure what a new pan costs but a tranny is mighty pricey!

I was thinking....I have never done a heli-coil...therefore I thought about JB welding it...then next time I can either drop the pan...or a tranny cooler line and just pump the old stuff out...I did that many times before....or...I think I have heard about a self tapping bolt?? what do you think? :hhmm:

The monkeys at the local jiffy lube stripped mine ( wife took it to get tranny flushed- 2002 DC 4x4) and I made them get me a new pan- I think it ran around 200.00

ok...here is what I found out...a new pan from the dealer is 123.00 and there is such a thing as oversize drain plugs...they are meant for oil pans....but I guess it should work...so i was thinking...does anyone know the size of my tranny pan drain bolt? all I know is it takes a 14mm wrench to remove it...:) just wondering....Garth

14mm would be an M10 (for JIS bolts). You could drill it out and retap as an M12 - I did this on my motorcycle drain plug and it worked just fine. Just don't drill into anything important.....;)

ok....that sounds good...where do you get the M12 bolts? would the cheap auto part stores have one??

Hardware stores (ACE, TrueValue, etc.) or home centers (Lowes, Home Depot, etc.)

Possibly an AutoZone, Advance, Checkers, O'Rielly etc.

M12x1.5 would sound about right.

M12x1.25 would be fine thread.
