O.K. Trying to do a little clean up of of some engine items this weekend. The rear oil pump bolt always had a bit of a leak to it and was loose. I removed the bolt to find it had been replaced by the PO with a 7/16thX 3" bolt.
Oh My!

So I've looked most of the day trying to find the proper bolt to fill this hole and can find nothing. Tried a few extras I had lying around and they did not work either.
12M X 1.75 and 12M X 1.50
Can anyone help me with the correct size?
Are one of the above bolts the one I need and the PO fawked up the threads so I'll need to pull the pan?
I know the bolt has contacted the crank at some point and it should be inspected, but that will have to wait for another time if I can help it.

TIA
Scott

if you can get in there, you might try running a tap into the bolt hole to see if that would work, or running a tap one step larger in metric than the size that was oem there. I did this for a few holes on my 40 and it worked well.

but like shane said, a helicoil would be the cleanest.....

Posted this in the 40 section as well.
JimC noted that the block was threaded?

I thought the oil pump held the threads and the block was smooth.

I'll try the tap method and see if that works.

If your working on a F Motor I have one I could break down and get thae bolt for you and even the pump if you need any parts off it. Just PM me if we can help

Thanks for the offer.
It's an F.5 from an early '75
I re-tapped the threads and used a 12m x 1.50 bolt to fix the problem. It appears to be holding and I will keep an eye on the area to make sure it doesn't leak. If it starts to leak again in the near future I'll contact you about the bolt and pump.
