It is either 1/8" or 1/4" BSPT (British Standard Pipe Thread).

Ok cool looks like its a 1/8 got one on order will up date if it works

Haha, you're a menace! Is there a good story behind this one? :D

Isn't it npt tread ?

NOPE ... Just trying to swap out the oil pressure switch and it broke ...question is it a tapered tap or a parallel type ???

I thought so too... 1/8NPT. That's what 2 different sources show/told me.

Weird thing was... I've used an 1/8NPT- -4AN adapter to a T-piece for the turbo oil feed. That T-piece also uses 1/8NPT for the oil pressure sender. The old oil pressure sender out of the block screwed easily into the T-piece, the adapter screwed easily into the T-piece but the adapter was a very tight fit into the block, like it was the wrong thread. Strange as the old oil pressure sender screwed into the T-piece with ease.

believe the differences between NPT and BSPT are not really important .. actually I do re - thread mine to NPT with minimal effort ..

1/8 BSPT = 28 TPI

1/8 NPT = 27 TPI

(Personally I'd choose the correct BSPT tap and fitting everytime.)

Yup I'm the same but is it taper "T" or parallel "P" it looks parallel and at $50 for the tap I want to order the correct one

It's a taper fit.

And I'd vote for using the 1/8 BSPT too just to keep things consistent.

Good luck. I frinckin h8 easy outs and break them off more often that not.

Lostmarbles is very correct- it's British pipe taper- he helped me with mine. got the new fitting and it went in like it belonged there. 28 tpi--try to put anything else in there and it won't go. There's another thread about this in the 40 tech forum; has a mfg that makes the fitting, can't remember now. I'll post again after I look it up

2nd reply here- found the thread- don't know how to link it yet, but, look under 40 series "oil pressure sending unit and metric size" There's a reply in there where I bought the proper fitting(I think it was ~$8) Lostmarbles also showed a pic of his fitting. I ended up installing a tee so I could have a direct-reading gauge along with the instrument cluster one.

Lost is correct. Trying to weld on a tap is usually unsuccessful as the carbon content is to high. Best to work the tap back and forth over and over until(hopefully) it will back out. Also, tap cast dry(no cutting oil). If that tap breaks flush, you'll need a carbide bit to drill it out. Once it's out, chase the threads with the 1/8"BSPT tap. Good luck

I have a few of these if anyone needs.

1/8 bspt to 4AN (37° JIC )
Steel not brass.

I think I have 2 or 3 sitting around...

1/8 x28 BSP worked like a champ
