Hi all,

I noticed a drop in my garage tonight looks like oil. Crawled under the truck and it's wet on top of the black plate and there were two drips coming off of it. The photo is an example of the black plate that I'm talking about.

Any ideas or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Jason

I sprayed it off with brake cleaner And wiped it off. Looks like it's around the bottom area. Could it be a loose bolt, a bad gasket? Any stories with these? It's an 04 with 108k miles. Never goes off-road.

T case output seal? Had one go bad at about 150K miles. But they weren't all street miles. Probably not a loose bolt.

Ballpark estimate? I'm taking it in for an oil change this week, and am going to have my mechanic check it out. Just want to understand rough cost.

Very difficult to say what cost is without knowing where the leak is. From some past research the housing seals don't go bad too often unless damaged/neglected. Nearly everything that could leak aside from the drain plugs is most likely going to require tearing it down to get to, which means taking it out of the vehicle. Guy who has the equipment and knowledge out in a hour or so, couple hours to take apart, fix and clean all the sealing surfaces for new fipg, hour to put it back in. Depending on shop rates $400-$600 total?

Did you have the oil in the tcase changed lately? It's pretty easy to overtorque and mess up the seal washer on the drain plugs. Wanted to shoot whoever did mine last as they torqued the hell out of it and it took some serious efforts with a 30" breaker bar to get loose.

Always nice when it is is something simple. Also nice that it was a slow thing that won't cause a huge problem like when a mechanic forgets to tighten down the oil drain plug
