Another noob question. Had my intake off of my 3B w/Garrett Turbo for the first time today. In intake ducting was coated inside with a black residue. Is that a problem?

Generally, no.

Many turbo systems route the engine breather into the intake air stream, and this will lead to a fine oil mist coating the surfaces.

Do you have any kind of significant oil loss?

Thanks John. Good to know. No significant oil loss but I will keep a close eye on it. Thanks again. Happy holidays.

when the seals are bad in the turbo it will put excessive oil into the intake. a little is ok. but soaking is bad.

i rebuilt my turbo with new carbon seals and all and still have a little oil in the intake.

On my last hdj81 I was worried that I had a pooched turbo. So I cleaned the whole intake and turbo and added a catch can. This proved that it was not the turbo seals (thank god). Its a good way to monitor your turbos health.
