Worst. Oil. Change. Ever.

Whomever put the filter on last time needs a thorough beating. Truck is new to me with 50K on it. None of my strap wrenches or other oil filter tools would touch the thing; I went and got a 63.5mm cap wrench (I now know that Motivx makes a great one). Still didn't budge. The wrench kept sliding off of the housing just enough that I was working against it.

I ended up putting a block of wood against the wrench and using a floor jack to hold it in place. It took that, plus a two foot extension bar, plus a cheater pipe to unscrew the filter housing. I cracked two of the plastic tabs on it in the process. It's done now! Question: if I go to a metal filter housing is there a vendor that is recommended - other than Toyota?

Why not the Toyota housing?
Around $200 for the metal one? Or am I wrong?

Reading further it seems if you don’t tighten to the extreme this should never be an issue again.

The metal caps are $35-$50 depending where you get it from. 15620-31060.
...And get the MotivX filter socket. They are great. They have a kit with the socket, drain attachment, and screw in funnel that is definitely worth owning.

Dorman make a metal replacement. Most auto parts stores carry them. I think it’s around $50.00.
I have heard bad things about the Dorman replacements. Something about an oil bypass that the oem replacement has but the Dorman does not. Apparently this can cause low oil pressure issues, don't take my word for it but may be worth some research.
