Hey y'all.
I'm I the middle of Utah driving back to San Diego and just stopped to find oil covering the underside of the transfer case and also the rear axle and exhaust from it being flung out. Ima long ways from a shop and need to know if I should continue or notcontinue driving or if there is anyway to measure the amount of fluid stillin the

Remove the transfer case filler plug [24mm - buy a socket if you con't have one on board] and fill the case till it begins to overflow. Use Mobil 1 LS 75W-90. Replace fill plug.
Drive it like that for an hour, then check how much it has lost by refilling as above. The case capacity is 1.4 quarts, so you'll have to judge how much you are losing per hour. Aim to refill before it drops to 1/2 full.

Weare actually in the process of waiting for a tow truck as the oil is being flung onto the cats and exhaust and I don't want to run the risk of a car fire. Bits it's 8 degrees here so a car fire would keep us warm a bit longer haha.

It's my buddy and I but yeah we are just trying to get back home. We will try to get to st George in the tow truck and pick up some of that oil but we are worried about the risk of the oil on the cats burning. Any input ? If we kept filling the oil up and driving is their a chance the oil on the cats could catch fire as we go down the road? Or is there something we could do to prevent that like by creating a shield of aluminum foil between the transfer case and the cats?
Repairs couldn't happen till Monday at the earliest from what I've heard from shops and dealerships.

If you just need to get home. Drain the fluid, clean the outside of the case with brakleen as much as possible.

Goop that s*** on the outside of the transfer case all around where it was leaking.

Wait 2 hours and fill with gear oil.

Should get you home.
