Coming up on a change of rotors and brake pads on my 2000 LC. Any performance improvements by changing to aftermarket brake parts and rotors -- say for example slotted drilled ones from DBA (disc brake australia) or pads from TRD? Cost seems about twice the OEM for that.

I recommend Axis Ultimate brake pads.

I use Wagner Thermo quiet pads, and I've been very pleased with them. Essentially dust free and no squealing. Also, there's been very little wear even after 15k on them so far.

Where did you find them? I could only find Axis Metal Master which I have.
I am really satisfied with mine. It's very quiet and they bite really well. My LC stops much better than my Honda Accord with the same pad.

Whatever pads you get, make sure they work well in < 0F temps if you live where it gets cold. I'm using carbon/kevlar Porterfield street performance pads, and while they stop great when the rotors are warm (far superior to OEM w/ no fade in hard braking), but when the rotors are cold, like when the first time you brake, braking is less than OEM. Ditto with the Wilwood pads (both are rated 0-1000F, so I'd say go with something from below zero). I'm using PowerSlot rotors on one vehicle (slotted brembo's)...excellent. I don't think drilled buys you much...risk of cracking, plus you lose too much braking area. The slots help prevent pads from glazing and fling off the water faster if you submerge the discs. I haven't had any quicker pad wear since I have a 5spd manual, so I just take my foot off the gas and the rig starts slowing down.

Do those squeal more then the stock pads? How much of a difference do they make?

I have tried the Axxis (aka PBR, Bendix and formerly Repco) Ultimate pads in two vehicles but not a uzj100. Braking was much better than stock. Had better bite and fade resistance. Some have reported slight squealing, I have not experienced any noise. Just use lots of squealing goop.

There is an increase in brake dust as well but not excessive. Supposedly, the Ultimates are quieter and create less brake dust than the Axxis Metalmasters.

I didn't search much but here's one place that carries them online:

Not to flame you personally but Porterfields are s*** and way, way too expensive.

They might just might work well for 1 autocross weekend
(doubt it thou!), but for the street, total s***. Porterfields are designed to operate at only 1 tempeture range so they really aren't designed for street use but they sure will sell them saying they are.

They are also prone to cracking your rotors if abuised just once. I've seen all 4 set of pads come off in pieces along with rotors cracking from the top bown after 3 laps at willow springs while racing my Lightning there.

I only bring this issue up because the Lightning and the LC have somewhat the same weight and I really would like my 93 LC to stop at hopefully one day 1/2 the capacity of a stock Lightning.

Try Hawk pads - Monty Molt @ Bits and Pieces in Long Beach, phone is 562-420-3557
he'll help you set something up if possible for your 100 LC; sorry I have a 80 LC.
