This is killing me - i love the look of the OEM roll bar and i have been looking for one for ages with no luck - i can only assume that we never had them hear in Aus?

anyone know for sure?

Cheers

Well I doubt OEM roll bars were ever offered (even as an accessory) for new 40-series cruisers in either Australia or New Zealand. (I've always thought all the rollbars and roll cages I've seen over the years in both countries were either aftermarket or home-made).

But maybe the OEM product was available as a special-import accessory - but just too expensive (compared to the locally-made equivalent) for dealers or new-car purchasers to bother with.

And I gather the authorities in the US must have made sure ALL their vehicles were factory-fitted with OEM roll bars for safety reasons. (Canada too???)

for what model

ah kay wasnt sure if he ment the utes with the factory ute back etc

I have the factory roll bar. Got off a bloke who had it in his 78model 40. He got it from a wreckers, don't know what year it came from or weather it had been factory fitted though. Just assumed they were a common thing. Is the only one i have ever seen though come to think of it :meh:

That one is from a 77 or later as the curve of the rear bars is smaller to allow for the vent window catches to clear the bar. Wish you guys were closer....I've got one sitting on my patio I need to get rid of.

Yeah thats the kind i want - but urs is the only aussie 40 i can recall that i have seen one on.

Mine is an 84 fj40 - nearly rolled it backwards on the powerlines track the other week and i can only imagine what id look like after that as im pretty sure the whole hardtop would pancake - i didnt realise there were different shaped bars for different years tho

The OEM bars aren't exactly known to be stout units. Lots of guys here in the States upgrade to a heavier duty bar with thicker walled tubing. You could get the dimensions of a stock bar and bend some heavy duty tube to mimic the shape.....or just order one from Metaltech (vendor on this site). They have one that is an exact OEM replica, but with better metal to sustain a roll-over....here's the link to the page: http://www.metaltech4x4.com/productsframeset.htm
