I took delivery of my '16 LC in December. Right off the bat I noticed a large and deep crease down the side of the driver side front seat cushion (just above the seat controls). I pointed it out to the dealer, who immediately ordered a replacement seat cushion and cover (apparently the latter go for about $800 retail - which I thought sounded silly). Thankfully Toyota picked up the tab.

As I'm a bit anal when it comes to leather seats, I noticed - when I first drove it home with just 20 miles on the clock - that the same front seat leather seemed extremely susceptible to creases; especially when getting in and out of the vehicle. So, with just double digit miles on the clock, I conditioned the seats.... all of them. 3 times. That did a great job of preventing creases from forming on other seats, but the driver side seat was still susceptible, and after several hundred miles the seat was clearly "used"-looking. I was disappointed, but put it down to very soft leather and cushioning, and vowed to continue to condition with a view to keeping the seat looking as good as possible.

Fast forward to last week: the new seat cushion and cover arrived, and the dealer installed them perfectly. Again, as soon as I arrived home, I conditioned the seat. And oddly, it's not creasing.... as in, at all. Not even a tiny crease where I get in or out. It may be my imagination, but the cushion also seems a tad firmer (the dealer confirmed it was a cushion issue that was causing the leather creasing on the side in the original seat).

I did also notice that the texture of the leather - in some places, is not identical. Upon further inspection, the same can be said of all the leather in the truck. I'm not surprised - it's common for imperfect leather matches in all but the most expensive vehicles, but it was particularly apparent on the new front cushion - leather on the left was more grainy than the leather on the right, which is butter smooth.

My conclusion, and long-winded point of this post, is simply that not all leather is created equal. Even supposedly identical swatches of leather are different. The new front seat cover appears to be a LOT more durable than the old one. And while the grain/texture looks different if you REALLY pay attention, I'd take harder wearing leather (and firmer cushioning) over soft and crease-ridden stuff any day.

So fear not fellow LC owners: if/when you switch out your seat covers due to creases/cracks you may be in for a very pleasant surprise. Or not!

Can it possible be that the replacement was a MY15 part?

Good thought, but the texture on '15 seats is very different throughout. '16s are much smoother. On my seat, 90% is smooth and 10% is less smooth/grainy, but not as grainy as the '15. Also the texture on the grainy/rougher part of the '16 replacement cover matches leather in places on other seats. So I'm content I got a '16 cover - it's just much hardier. May also have something to do with the poorly installed seat cushion they replaced.

That's good to hear. I got a new 15 in October. The seats are very durable I find. They still show wear obviously but I'm rather pleased with how easy they are to wipe down haha

Is the GM at your dealership a particularly large man? Perhaps the old cushion was worn out during test drives.

I am getting creases as well and one on the side. Last weekend I have condition seats so I hope this will help. For sure seats look better now. Seats are very comfortable, but durability will have to see. For sure my previous nexuses felt much more durable.

LOL! The car had 21 miles on it during delivery. The seat was close-to-perfect then. But after just a couple of hundred miles, despite 3 coats of conditioner, creases started showing on the old seat.

I find using the grab handle when getting in (especially in) and out of the truck helps with the issue, along with the conditioner of course. But some leathers are just softer/more prone to creases than others.

I don't know if it's the ventilated seats and/or just thinner leather, but the leather on my 2013 LX 570 is thinner and creases much easier than my 2007 LX 100.

I hope my seats hold up better than my wife's 2010 Lexus IS250. What a big disappointment they have been from a wear standpoint. I did order that Leather kit everybody recs. Will have to wait for warmer temps before I can apply. Leather sure varies.

I just did my seats today. They are cooking as we speak. I bought one of those $20 heaters at walmart and hanged it from sunroof. Inside is well above 80 degrees now. Will be working on cleaning residue and gunk in the AM.

Let us know how they turn out Luke.

All looks great. I read on one of the forums to use a brush. I don't know if it did anything more beside using more product. Probably used 4 oz per seat. I let them cook for a 9 hours with a heater inside and wiped them off with wet t-shirts. Without a wet material there is no way to take the gunk off. The seats looks the same to me, but the creases are not as visible. So for sure the product helped, but probably massaging it in with hands vs. using paint brush can save money and do not waste the product.

Not being a leather expert, I wonder how different the leather on a single cow from front to back is. I'm assuming that the leather in your car came from more than 1 cow that was not genetically identical. Good to know though.

If we could just get the cows to line up there genomes. I'll have to have my people set up a meeting with the cows to discuss that.
