Never been, If I go where is the best place to go so I can drive on the beach an maybe do some fishing? Good places to stay?

You'll have to go to a ranger station, pay $50 and watch a safety video. We camped at a nice campground on Buxton, Cape Woods Campgrounds. It was moderately wooded and grassy, so not so exposed as some of the RV parks typically are. Nearby is the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse and the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum. Both worth a visit.
