Hi Gang,

Just bought a 100 and need some education on the OBII (my first foray into this world).

Specifically, looking at both the Teachstream and another like item "OBD-2 Secret Weapon" as seen at http://www.autodiagnosticsandpublishing.com/obd_2_auto_repair_software.html

So, as I understand it, if either is paired up with a scanner (or cable for toyota tis), they provide more information and methodology as to how to repair the fault, correct?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Note: This is cross posted on the 100 forum.

Thanks!

If you are specifically looking at this software for troubleshooting your 100-series, then I would definitely go with the Techstream Lite software from Toyota (https://techinfo.toyota.com/techInfoPortal/appmanager/t3/ti?_pageLabel=ti_ts_lite&_nfpb=true). Almost any OBD-II software can display the standard "legislated" OBD-II parameters (see OBD-II PIDs - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia). But manufacture-specific OBD-II data is not well documented in general, and is especially difficult to come by from Toyota. Some third parties have been able to deduce at least some of the Toyota-specific PIDs, but that's definitely a hit-and-miss proposition. The Techstream software, on the other hand, is specifically designed for use with Toyota vehicles and so will have all the diagnostic functions that Toyota vehicles are capable of understanding.
