I would like to fit a scan guage. I have gone through previous threads and gather that it will only work with OBD2. I have also read that OBD2 sockets are fitted inside the cab next to the fuse box and OBD1 are in the engine bay.

I have a 97 truck so was expecting to find that I have OBD2 but I have the socket in the engine bay. I am in the UK so it may be that we still have OBD2 sockets in the engine bay. The question is, can I tell if mine is OBD2 just by looking at it? I have posted pics - thanks for all help. Cheers,

Not sure if the diesel 80's ever came with the OBD-I or II.

I've seen similar vehicle diagnosis stuff in Japan, but I can't recall ever seen the compatibility charts including any modern diesel cruisers (80/100), but only the petrol models.

Sorry I'm not much help!

The UK spec petrol 80 I used to own also had the diagnostic port in the engine bay - that's why I am wondering whether this is a UK location for the thing regardless of OBD1 or 2

Maybe the FSM would help. You could call a Toyota dealer and talk to a tech.

OK. I thought the diagnostic port was the same as the OBD reader. .. My fuse block doesn't have any other port. That's what's confusing. I'll keep looking though..

I believe EOBD was required in Europe in 2001, may not have it in your '97. It took a while for the California Air Resources Board to take over the world.

I have had a closer look at this and there seems to be a clue on the fuse cover! It says OBD.

What does the OBD2 port look like - can you tell if I have one? If I do, which is is please??

Nope, it's a large plug, would be obvious, looks like you don't have one. That diagnostic port looks promising, but I've not seen any OBDI readers at parts stores. Maybe a parts store would be a good place to find out what products are compatible.

Looks like I may not have the OBD2 - I have looked at the Scanguage ad on eBay and it suggests that UK vehicles were fitted with them after 2000. I have emailed them to check. Thanks for the advice everyone. Cheers, Jim

Looks like ODB1. Open your bonnet and see if there is a large sticker with all types info on it. Mine is labeled there ODB1. If its ODB1, the closest you'll get to a ScanGauge I believe is a paper clip.

my obdII port is directly above the fuse pannel in your picture.

Hello,

I have the same problem for my 1997 European FZJ80 VXE 4500 EFI!
I do not have any trapezoid connector OBD II above the dash fuse block , and any sticker labeled on the bonnet !!!

I cannot believe that engineers Toyota amused to make different wire (with or without OBDII) since 1995, for FZJ80 and LX450…
I think that wiring already exists (some where), but it misses part of the beam with the connector…

If some one could look at where is the continuation of the OBDII connector (under the dashboard) ...
Thank you very very very much , for a poor french rookie !

Cordially.

I have an LC 80 1994 VX Diesel with also just the connector in the engine . My question then is, can one get any engine management out of the LC even to fit after market equipment?
