I use the ScanGauge II in my 04 Tundra 4.7

Pros: plugs right into your OBD port for real time info...MPH (you can calibrate it to wheel size and gearing), MPG, TEMP, VOLTS, and more...also tells any code that are thrown if the check engine light comes on. You can also clear the code with it as well, and all on the fly.

Cons: havent found one yet.

Scangauge II works great with my taco and LC!
Should work great on any obdII.

I routed the cables in each truck such that I can remove the cable without tools to use on a buddys truck (say to grab a code on the trail or at work).
There are cool laptop based systems for cheaper but the SG2 is super simple and useful for the price without excess bling.

Thanks guys..where did you buy the scan gauge and how many clams do they run?

That looks nice and clean! So no problem leaving it in there permanently?

I got a Ultragauge last spring. Haven't needed it for the code reader yet, but its improved my around town driving habits and upped my mpg by about 2-3 mpg since I got it... Way more reasonable price than the scan gauge. The auto-backlit lcd screen is really nice. Its smaller than it looks, and I just used the suction cup mount that was included and its tucked in quite nicely on the left/bottom corner of the windshield, just a inch or so above the dash..

They are at scangauge.com...
I've had 3 - the first my dad borrowed and wouldn't give it back - he just gave me the money for it. The second kind of rotates around, and the third is in my SO's turbo Forester so she can keep an eye on her mileage.
Great units, and they improve them all the time.

Another option....

I bought a cheap $30 bluetooth obdII connector from eBay (chinese seller) and I use the Torque app on my android phone. It's pretty awesome, and will pull/clear engine codes, as well as do a ton of real time info.

Ps, the free version of torque is ok, but the paid version is worth it IMHO.

I've heard of those, but I'm not sure how reliable they are. One advantage is you can input your vehicle's weight and the accelerometer will give you wind drag, power output, etc.

Yeah I know a few people who have gone this route, they are having good luck with them. The only reason I didn't do this is I wanted the permanent display instead of having to remember to turn on a app, I would forget.
